This is a group of children illustrating one of the books we wrote up on a big piece of paper for all to read. This one is called 'Neo Finds her Pig'. This is a fun way to read a book, and many children who can't read can still listen in and follow the text.
A big ‘thank you, rea leboha’ to Bob Parsons and the Rahula Trust for your wonderful donation. We plan to use it in two ways:
The first is to help us to start to buy land so that we can build our own little centre - the first step in an exciting journey for Paleng.
The second is to help us to try to somehow put some of our homegrown stories into print, and to distribute them to the primary schools in our valley (and beyond if we can!) This will give children who are learning to read, books to read in Sesotho that were written in their own valley, imagine that! We will be putting our stories up on this web-site, but you can also see them at www.africanstorybook.org.
We also want to buy some more appropriate books, like these you see here, those developed in Africa for African children in English, focusing on emerging literacy (those little people and others of course, just learning to read).
Thank you Rahula for helping us make our dreams come true, your donation will really make a difference to early literacy development here.
