One is a traditional story about a bean and piece of coal who come to a river and argue about who will cross first. The story ends in an unfortunate way for both of them.
For this little book our children made some beautiful drawings, and they are very proud to see their work in print. This book is aimed at a grate one/two level.
The second book, ‘Thoko’s Fanta Pine Seed’, is at a more advance literacy level, and is a story with a strong environmental message about littering. The illustrations are photographs using some of our Paleng toys, and our children here recognised them and think they are very funny.
Creating, illustrating and printing little bilingual picture storybooks is an ongoing Paleng project.
We feel very strongly that Basotho children should have interesting and appropriate books to read in their mother tongue Sesotho. At the moment there are only a handful of such books available in the country, a situation that we find both distressing and unacceptable.
So we have taken it upon ourselves to try and make this little pool of books bigger. Right now we have five little books in circulation, and our most fervent hope is that we can swell that number to ten by the end of 2017.
We are constantly fundraising in order to make this Paleng dream come true. Any way that you can support us will be most gratefully welcomed ☺
